Respironics Announces New Mask

The information below is excerpted from a press release from Respironics dated March 24, 1999

PITTSBURGH, March 24 -- Respironics, Inc. (Nasdaq: RESP) today announced the U.S. market launch of its new Profile(TM) Custom Nasal Mask, a revolutionary advancement in the noninvasive treatment of sleep apnea and other respiratory diseases.<BR>

Profile creates a personalized solution to each patient's needs by profiling the special inner layer of the mask to fit precisely the individual's facial contours. The simplified customization process consists of boiling water, inserting the mask into the hot water, cooling it, and then placing it on the face to create a personalized fit. Good fit is the secret to a better seal with the face, less air leakage, and improved patient comfort. Profile can be reshaped as necessary by repeating the customization process. Available in three sizes and constructed with only four parts, Profile will satisfy the patient's need for comfort, reliability and simplicity and the healthcare provider's desire for minimal inventory.<BR>

Doug Mechlenburg, vice president of sleep medicine engineering for Respironics stated; "Masks are a critical component of therapy for patients using CPAP and bi-level systems. Drawing upon our vast experience in developing therapy products for OSA and noninvasive ventilation products, we are proud to introduce the Profile Custom Nasal Mask. Designed to be comfortable, effective and easy to use, we believe this mask will solidify Respironics' leading position in the patient interface marketplace. Our testing has shown significant advantages for the Profile versus competitive masks in terms of air leakage and resulting comfort and effectiveness."<BR>

Dennis S. Meteny, president and chief executive officer commented; "As we implement strategies aimed at increasing Respironics' market share and profitability, our continued success is based on our ability to innovate in all parts of our business, none more important than new products. This mask is an innovative alternative to what is in the current market. The Profile gives our patients a better chance for a good night's rest. It all boils down to this, a perfect fitting mask for every face."<BR>
